IC Touring Car European Championships are GO!!
RC Racing Arrives in Germany amid humidity and controversy!
Arriving at a hot and steamy Ettlingen track here in southern Germany, all the talk was of the controversy that has been rumbling through the summer - Additive on tyres in the IC foam Classes.
Accusations of cheating blighted the 1/8th track championships in Luxembourg and to guarantee no repeat EFRA have put in a very stringent tyre control procedure here in Germany!
Come back later for our welcome video and tomorrow we'll have an in depth investigation into the additive issues!!!
Yannic Prumper won a thrilling third leg of the A Final to secure the runner up position. For the full five minutes Yannic led the field, despite having defending champion Ronald Volker glued to his rear bumper.
But the younger German withstood the pressure to claim a popular win, with Volker also having to worry about pressures from behind as a train of cars circulated in close company for the entire race distance. Rheinard, having secured the title, did not run the third leg.
Behind the two Germans, Swedes Alexander Hagberg and Viktor Wilck were waiting to benefit from any mistakes, with Jilles Groskamp and Marc Fischer also in close attendance.
As the train circualted, something had to give, and it all happened on the last lap. Wilck tried an ambitious move going through the infield section, hitting the side of Hagberg. Officials issued a 10-second penalty to Wilck following the race and after reviewing the race footage.
On the final corner, Volker tried a do-or-die attempt to take the corner tightly, but clipped the kerb and rolled the car. This allowed Wilck and Groskamp to nip pass. Volker recovered to fourth (which became third when Wilck's penalty was applied).
So the final results of the third leg were Prumper taking the win, Groskamp second, Volker third, followed by Fischer, Graversen, Hagberg, Wilck, Moore and Krapp.
So, once all the points were added up, the overall results of the 2011 EFRA Touring Car Championship are:
1 Marc Rheinard DE Tamiya / SpeedPassion / Thunder Power
2 Yannic Prumper DE Yokomo / Thunder Power
3 Ronald Volker DE Yokomo / LRP
4 Jilles Groskamp NL Tamiya / Orion
5 Viktor Wilck SE Tamiya / Thunder Power
6 Alexander Hagberg SE Xray / LRP
7 Steen Graversen DK Awesomatix / Thunder Power
8 Andy Moore GB Hot Bodies / Moorespeed
9 Christopher Krapp DE Kyosho / Orion
10 Marc Fischer DE Serpent / GM
So, Marc captured another European title, and it was a German sweep of the podium. Thanks to the host club for a fantastic facility and a brilliantly run event. Stay tuned to www.EFRA.ws for a full video roundup later this evening. Nick will return next week for the 200mm 1/10 Nitro event in Germany. But from the RC Racing TV team in Austria thanks for following along and we hope you enjoyed the coverage!
Marc Rheinard took a second convincing win in Leg 2 of the A finals here in Austria to secure the European title. This is his second summer Touring Car title, to go along with his one indoor title, two 1/12th championships, and one 4WD offroad title, of course alongside his three World Championship titles.
In leg 2 he again was challenged by Prumper and Volker for the first few laps, with Hagberg also hanging on to the leading pack. But, as before, Marc got into his groove and pulled away.
The battle for second place intensified as Yannic appeared to have a problem with his car, occasionally the car snapping loose in the middle of the corner. After the race he put this down to a dodgy tire on one corner of the car. At around three quarter distance, his car slid going through the fast infield sweeper, opening the door just enough to allow defendig champion Ronald Volker to make a fantastic pass on the infield.
Alexander Hagberg held fourth after not being able to pass either of the two second place contendors. Fifth in the leg was Viktor Wilck, followed by Jilles Groskamp, Andy Moore, Steen Graversen, Chrissi Krapp and Marc Fischer.
With the title now wrapped up, Rheinard will sit out the final leg to allow Yannic and Ronald to battle for the second place.

EFRA GP Applications & Organisation for year 2012
This is a simple, but strong reminder, before you subjected your dates Applications for EFRA GP on 2012.
All the objectives are contained in this note already published on last December 13rd, 2010, further to the Calendar multiple problems, to which we have had of to face the last year after the AGM.
Thank you for taking into account it, and of your understanding.
As finals day begins, we learn how the electronics experts have approached this event. Featuring LRP's Reto Konig, Team Orion's Oscar Jansen, and Thunder Power's Toni Rheinard
Marc Rheinard has taken a relatively easy victory in the first leg of the A Final. The top qualifier led from the start, but suffered early pressure from Yannic Prumper and Ronald Volker through the early laps.
But as the race progressed, Marc started to pull out a small gap. A mistake from Ronald saw Yannic left as Marc's only real challenger, but the German teenager was not able to get close enough to his fellow countryman and 3-time World Champion.
After the race, Marc admitted it was a fairly easy win, once the pressure was off after the first few laps he knew he just had to drive carefully and not make any mistakes to take the win.
Yannic said that the early attention of Ronald meant he had to defend to start with, but following Volker's mistake, he tried to push as much as possible to catch Marc, but ultimately fell short.
Behind these three, Viktor Wilck and Jilles Groskamp had a good battle for fourth, even managing to challenge Volker for a short time. But on the tight twisty track passing moves were few and far between, as the drivers instead tried to pressure the car infront into a mistake.
Steen Graversen finished sixth, followed by Chrissi Krapp, Andy Moore, Alexander Hagberg and Marc Fischer.
Stay tuned to www.EFRA.ws for more news later, and of course our full finals round up video this evening.
With round 5 now complete, how does the grid line up?
After yet another close round of qualifying, it was World Champion and one of the pre-event favourites, Marc Rheinard, who managed to find some more pace in his car to take the round by 2.5 seconds from team mate Viktor Wilck.
Marc admitted that he knew going into this race he needed a good score to get himself a higher grid place and so chose to run new tires in the hope that they would prove faster on the final round when the track's grip was at its highest.
This result gives Marc the coverted pole position, despite starting the run knowing that 4 drivers were all still in with a chance. After 2 DNF's yesterday, the German racer, who switched to using Thunder Power LiPos earlier this year, said he was very glad to put yesterday behind him and his focus will now switch to tomorrows finals.
Third in the final round was Yannic Prumper. With Marc taking the round, Yannic will now line up second on the grid, his best ever starting position at an EFRA European Championships, one place better than the Indoor Euros earlier this year.
Round 1 pace setter Alexander Hagberg took his Xray to fourth in the round, and Christopher Krapp took fifth in the round.
Sixth place in the round was Freddy Sudhoff, but this result wasn't enough to get him into the A Final. Seventh for Jilles Groskamp was just about enough to lock him into the top 10, whilst 8th for Andy Moore didn't improve his overall score but saw him solidify yet another A Final place for the 2006 World Champion.
A somewhat surprising ninth in the round was former Euro Indoor A-Finalist Viljami Kutvonen, alas with only a 13th from earlier rounds an A final place at this event wasn't possible for the Finn.
Completing the top 10 for the round was another Finnish driver, Juho Levanen. The former European Champion unfortunately suffered in the earlier rounds to get a good setup on the car, leaving his Team Associated car outside the top 10 overall.
With the drivers now having a short time to prepare their cars for the A Final, attention now turns to having a car that a driver can race with, rather than qualify with, for 5 minutes. As we've seen a lot of incidents throughout the 5 qualifying rounds on this tricky Austrian circuit, many are expecting more close racing throughout the finals tomorrow.
The drivers will get a practise final tonight to see how they stack up in racing conditions!

Yannic Prumper becomes the 4th different driver to set the fastest time in as many rounds!
German driver Yannic Prumper set the fastest time in the fourth round of qualifying, after a titanic battle. Through the last two heats, many drivers traded fastest laps and let the scoreboard. But when the clock stopped after the final 5 minute heat, it was Yannic's name at the top, half a second ahead of his Yokomo team-mate Ronald Volker.
Viktor Wilck took his Thunder Power motivated Tamiya to third in the round ahead of Steen Graversen's similarly powered Awesomatix (car pictured).
Fifth in the round was Marc Rheinard, who initially was keeping pace with Yannic but dropped back a little towards the end. The Current World Champion is pleased to now have two good scores in, but wants to try to challenge for pole in the final round.
Rounding out the top 10 from Q4 were Alexander Hagberg, Christopher Krapp, Dominik Fleischmann, Jilles Groskamp and Juho Levanen.
So the overall standings, with 1 round remaining are:
1 Yannic Prumper (2 points)
2 Ronald Volker (2)
3 Marc Rheinard (5)
4 Alexander Hagberg (5)
5 Christopher Krapp (5)
with Marc Fischer (5 points), Viktor Wilck (7), Steen Graversen (10), Jilles Groskamp (12) and Andy Moore (12) completing hte current A Final lineup.
But with any of the top 6 potentially able to take the overall pole position, there's certainly lots to play for in the final round.
Stay tuned for more updates, and later this evening our full qualifying round up!
Three drivers break into the 20 lap bracket as Marc Rheinard goes quickest!
Three drivers managed to hit 20 lap runs as the traction levels increased here in Austria.
Current World Champion Marc Rheinard put yesterday's bad results behind him to take the fastest time, 20 laps in 314.474. Second place went to Yannic Prumper, just over half a second behind, with Marc Fischer (car pictured) continuing his strong running with a third place, a further 8 tenths behind Yannic.
Viktor Wilck set the fourth best time, with a 19 lap 300.186, ahead of former World and European Champion Andy Moore.
Steen Graversen took his Awesomatix car to sixth, saying he was much happier with the car after making it easier to drive today. Christopher Krapp took seventh in the round, with last years runner up Elliott Harper in either. The British driver said he still is looking for better feeling in his Team Orion powered Tamiya as the car is suffering from grip roll.
Freddy Sudhoff took ninth with his LRP powered Hot Bodies, with Ronald Volker rolling his car off the track on the first lap but managing to post a top 10 time.
Further down the order, Round 1 TQ driver, Alex Hagberg was 22nd, and an accident for Jilles Groskamp which saw his bodyshell get caught up and require a marshall's assistance put him in 28th in the round.
So the top 5 after 3 rounds (with best 2 to count) are:
1 Ronald Volker
2 Alexander Hagberg
3 Christopher Krapp
4 Marc Fischer
5 Viktor Wilck
And Yannic Prumper (pictured), Jilles Groskamp, Andy Moore, Steen Graversen and Dominik Fleischmann rounding out the top 10.
Stay with www.EFRA.ws for all the news from the final (and decisive) 2 rounds of qualifying!
As the drivers arrive at the track for the second day of qualifying, we catch up with Dutch driver, Jilles Groskamp
The Dutch racer, now living and working in Thailand, has been spending the last few months living back in his home country (bringing his young family with him!) to race at a number of the big European events and prepare for a few of the EFRA championships
The Team Orion powered driver said that the track is very challenging to drive and a small mistake can prove very costly - as he found out in the second round of qualifying when he was on for a potential TQ time but clipped a kerb and ended up outside hte top 5.
However, he said that many of the top drivers are making mistakes and therefore there is a good chance that anyone who can make the A final will have a chance to win.
He says that he initaially thought he was off the pace, but seeing how many different (and often unexpected!) drivers we are seeing at the top of the time sheets leaves him feeling that he is not as slow as he initally thought!
He will make some small changes to the setup in the hope of securing a reasonable grid slot for the finals, but admitted that pole position may not be possible for him this weekend.
For more updates on the progress of Jilles and the other 100 racers here, make sure you keep checking www.EFRA.ws throughout the weekend!
Defending Champ Ronald Volker has moved back in front in Round 2 of Qualifying. Again, a number of the top drivers made mistakes and finished further down the order than expected, but Ronald (car pictured) drove a clean, fast run to take the vital TQ points.
Behind him, it was a German lockout of the top three places with Marc Fisher (Serpent / GM) and Christopher Krapp (Kyosho / Orion) proving Round 1 was no fluke to take second and third respectively.
Behind them was Viktor Wilck. Viktor lead the top heat, trading fastest times with Volker, until a few mistakes saw him kit some kerbs and spin the car, dropping him back.
Round 1 pace setter Alexander Hagberg rounded out the top 5 in round two, and has a useful haul of points heading into tomorrow.
So the overall standings (counting both rounds) is now:
1 Ronald Volker - Germany - Yokomo/LRP
2 Alex Hagberg - Sweden - Xray/LRP
3 Chris Krapp - Germany - Kyosho/Orion
4 Marc Fischer - Germany - Serpent/GM
5 Viktor Wilck - Sweden - Tamiya/Thunder Power
But with only 2 rounds to count from the 5 total qualifying rounds, drivers can effectively write off the whole first day - something World Champion Marc Rheinard will be hoping to do (along with many others!) after 2 DNF's today!
Stay tuned to www.EFRA.ws throughout the weekend for all the news, all the action and all the stories from Austria!
You may as well throw the practise results out of the window, as the first round of qualifying produced some completely unexpected results!
It was Swedish driver Alex Hagberg who took the fastest time (car pictured) in Round 1. He beat German teenager Christopher Krapp to the top by by just one tenth of a second. Hagberg admitted he was a little surprised with the result, but added that the car was working very well and whilst many of the top drivers made mistakes, his car was very easy to drive for the complete 5 minute run.
Third place was another German driver, Marc Fischer. Driving the new Serpent for only the second time this weekend, he is pleased with how well the new car is working and how quickly he was able to get up to speed with it.
Fourth overall was Jilles Groskamp, 2 tenths behind Fischer. Fifth place went to defending champion Ronald Volker, with Viktor Wilck in sixth with a Thunder Power-powered Tamiya.
Completing the top 10 were former World Champion Andy Moore (7th), fastest in practise Yannic Prumper (8th), Steen Graversen (9th) and Dominik Fleischmann completing the top 10.
But with a number of the driver both inside the top 10 and outside it making mistakes during the run, the first round was far from conclusive. With only 2 rounds of qualifying counting, many used it as an additional chance to test further setup changes, but for Alex Hagberg it means Pole Position is now firmly within reach.
Make sure you stay with EFRA.ws for the next three action packed days! We'll have reports, videos, interviews and lots, lots more!
Practise has now concluded here in Austria, and it was Yannic Prumper who set the fastest time with his Thunder Power-powered Yokomo. With the drivers being seeded based on their fastest two consectuive laps, Yannic only completed 2 laps in the final run. Talking to Yannic's mechanic, Toni Rheinard, after the run, he said they pulled the car off as they wanted to save the tires for Qualifying and hadn't realised how much quicker new rubber would be.
Behind Yannic was fellow German Marc Rheinard. Also running Thunder Power LiPos, the two Germans were the only to dip below 31 seconds for the combined 2 lap time.
Jilles Groskamp (pictured) admitted he was surprised to take third, saying he had thought he was still lacking some pace earlier this morning. The Dutch driver had not been to the track to practise before the event, so started with a car setup Marc Rheinard was running and has used the practise rounds to get himself used to the track and tweak the setup on his Orion powered Tamiya to his own liking.
Ronald Volker was disappointed to drop to fourth with his LRP powered Yokomo. The top 5 was completed by RC Racing TV's favourite Doctor, Swedish Driver Alex Hagberg with his similarly powered Xray.
But the practise results count for absolutely nothing and so drivers will now turn their attention to ensuring their cars are quick for a 5 minute run.
