Meet the Board: Mark Rumble!

We are proud to welcome Mark Rumble to the EFRA Board as the new EFRA Secretary! Taking over from Willie Wuyts, who served as Secretary for 18 years (!), Mark has a long history with RC racing, is heavily involved directly within the RC industry and also has represented the British federation BRCA for many years.

Now with a new role as EFRA Secretary, Mark explains his background, his vision and his hopes for RC in the latest Inside EFRA podcast!

EFRA: Hi there Mark 👋🏻 How are you?  

Mark: Hi! I’m doing great, thank you! Excited to get started in this new role and keep striving to push RC racing forward.  

EFRA: Can you tell us in no more than 5 words the job you do for EFRA…?  

Mark: Connecting, coordinating, and advancing RC.

EFRA: Sounds good so far… Now what’s the longer version?  

Mark: As EFRA Secretary, I focus on ensuring smooth communication between country federations, assisting in organising key events, and helping shape the future direction of RC racing in Europe. It’s about creating opportunities, maintaining high standards, and driving collaboration across the RC racing community.  

EFRA: So what is your favourite class of RC racing?  

Mark: I have a soft spot for 1/8th off-road—it’s fast, technically advanced, and always exciting to watch and be part of.  

EFRA: So…are you any good at racing?  

Mark: I’d say I’m decent! I’ve raced enough to appreciate the challenges and skill involved, though I’m probably better behind the scenes. Plus, I’m not sure my wallet could handle the repair bills! 😂

EFRA: What is your proudest moment in RC?  

Mark: Watching events or teams I’ve been involved with come together successfully is always rewarding. One standout moment was seeing the progress in junior development, especially being part of Erik Lykke’s journey with Nemo Racing and witnessing him take his first national race win earlier this year. Moments like that make all the hard work worthwhile.

EFRA: What can you tell us about you that we don’t already know?  

Mark: I’m passionate about classic cars – it’s been a fascination of mine since I was a young boy!

EFRA: What is your favourite sport outside of RC?  

Mark: I love tennis – it’s a great way to stay active, have some fun, and work off a bit of competitive energy. Plus, I can always blame my racket if I lose! Ha!

EFRA: What was the last music you heard?  

Mark: “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor. It’s one of those classics you just can’t skip!

EFRA: So, what else do you do to relax?  

Mark: It’s nice to find the time to just chill at home and get hooked on binge-watching whatever new series we’re into! When my schedule allows…😂

EFRA: What advice would you give someone wanting to compete in an EFRA Euros for the first time?  

Mark: Talk to others who’ve raced at a Euros before and learn from their experiences. Then, commit to preparing – check your setup, research the track, and get some practice in. Most importantly, soak it all in – it’s an amazing opportunity to learn, improve, and enjoy the experience.

EFRA: So, how did you become involved in EFRA?

Mark: My journey to EFRA began with my involvement in BRCA 8th RallyX, where I gained valuable experience organising and supporting RC racing events. At the same time, NEMO Racing gave me the chance to work closely with talented drivers and supportive families, deepening my passion for the sport’s future. Those experiences, combined with the incredible events I’ve attended worldwide, inspired me to share that excitement with others. Joining EFRA felt like a natural next step to contribute even more and help shape the future of RC racing.

EFRA: Finally, what is the number 1 thing you would like to see in RC in Europe in the future?  

Mark: Greater accessibility – introducing programs to attract new people to the sport and supporting grassroots development to ensure RC racing thrives at all levels.
