Qualifying Results! |
With round 5 now complete, how does the grid line up? |
After yet another close round of qualifying, it was World Champion and one of the pre-event favourites, Marc Rheinard, who managed to find some more pace in his car to take the round by 2.5 seconds from team mate Viktor Wilck. Marc admitted that he knew going into this race he needed a good score to get himself a higher grid place and so chose to run new tires in the hope that they would prove faster on the final round when the track's grip was at its highest. |
This result gives Marc the coverted pole position, despite starting the run knowing that 4 drivers were all still in with a chance. After 2 DNF's yesterday, the German racer, who switched to using Thunder Power LiPos earlier this year, said he was very glad to put yesterday behind him and his focus will now switch to tomorrows finals. |
Third in the final round was Yannic Prumper. With Marc taking the round, Yannic will now line up second on the grid, his best ever starting position at an EFRA European Championships, one place better than the Indoor Euros earlier this year. Round 1 pace setter Alexander Hagberg took his Xray to fourth in the round, and Christopher Krapp took fifth in the round. |
Sixth place in the round was Freddy Sudhoff, but this result wasn't enough to get him into the A Final. Seventh for Jilles Groskamp was just about enough to lock him into the top 10, whilst 8th for Andy Moore didn't improve his overall score but saw him solidify yet another A Final place for the 2006 World Champion. |
A somewhat surprising ninth in the round was former Euro Indoor A-Finalist Viljami Kutvonen, alas with only a 13th from earlier rounds an A final place at this event wasn't possible for the Finn. Completing the top 10 for the round was another Finnish driver, Juho Levanen. The former European Champion unfortunately suffered in the earlier rounds to get a good setup on the car, leaving his Team Associated car outside the top 10 overall. |
With the drivers now having a short time to prepare their cars for the A Final, attention now turns to having a car that a driver can race with, rather than qualify with, for 5 minutes. As we've seen a lot of incidents throughout the 5 qualifying rounds on this tricky Austrian circuit, many are expecting more close racing throughout the finals tomorrow. The drivers will get a practise final tonight to see how they stack up in racing conditions! |
